Yes indeed, Captain Jack Sparrow has docked his ship, gave his shipmates liberty for the weekend and came to visit Bix! Don’t believe me? Scroll down and you will see Jack Sparrow performing the Irish Folk Song, Whisky in a Jar (clap clap clap).  Contrary to the belief that pirates have horrible, wretched voices; Jack performs this song quite eloquently!

Besides being over 40 and still looking as hot as ever, what do you think these celebrities have in common?   You guessed it…they are all a part of the “Who’s the Hottest Celebrity over 40?” contest here at Bix.  The current results are not surprising; but the contest isn’t even close to being over! 

Now, I am sure you want know who is winning the contest so I’ll give you a hint or two.  She appeared in one episode of a Different World, had a few guest appearances on Knots Landing; she has been in movies such as Boomerang and Swordfish and was the lead actress in Perfect Stranger.  And, if you still don’t know who she is, you better ask somebody.

As the 2008 Presidential Primaries are right around the corner, and we here at Bix feel that it’s incumbent upon us to participate in the ongoing discussions about the next President of the United States.  We have created several contests that examine different aspects of the upcoming elections and we have asked our community of users to vote/comments about each one:

• Who will most likely be the VP candidate?
• Who is the most charismatic Presidential candidate?
• Which candidate connects best with the American people?

While these contests are fun to look at, the more important question to ask is “Who will be the next President of the United States”.  The ballots have been submitted and the early results are in. Hillary Clinton is leading this contest by a small margin of votes over Rudy Giuliani.  Below is a list of all the 2008 candidates and where they currently rank in this contest.

In 2006, Scarlett Johansson was voted the Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire. In 2007, Charlize Theron took the title.  We here at Bix decided to run our own contest to see who in fact the winner should really be.  We also added some healthy competition to the mix…Jessica Alba, Angelina Jolie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Eva Mendez and Eva Longoria to name a few. Well, the Bix community has stepped up to the plate and the preliminary results are in.  Drum roll please…as it stands now, Jessica Alba has a healthy lead in front of this years winner, Charlize. In fact, over 13,000 people have picked Jessica over Charlize in a head to head face off!

So here is the deal folks.  Do you need some extra cash for the holidays? Last month, in partnership with Yahoo! Green, we went searching for the next green icon to represent green related content across the Yahoo! Network.  After several weeks and almost 500 entries later, the voting has ended and the community has decided. The winner, Leah Dickey, agreed to answer a few questions about her experiences, passions, the icon and of course the non-profit organization that she selected.

A great big kudos to Leah Dickey for designing a killer icon that was selected by the Bix community as the best!  Here is a screen shot of the Leah’s icon along with the two runner-ups.

Leah has recommended that Yahoo! donate the $20,000 to the Green Street Project, a nonprofit organization that’s collaborating with civic leaders, government and the media to get people engaged in making Chicago a leading environmentally sustainable city.
