Interview with Booker Forte, Winner of the Extra! Dance Contest

September 24th, 2007   |   2 Comments

Booker Forte’For those of you who are new to Bix, we sponsored a dance contest with Extra! TV back in June 2008.  There were several awesome dance videos but the community crowned the winning title to Booker Forte’.  I had the pleasure to speak with Booker Forte’ a few weeks ago and asked him some questions that we have all been dying to know.

Interview Starts Here:

Hi Booker. Thanks for taking the time to meet with me today.  I really appreciate it. I just have a few questions that I would like to ask you. Some questions are from me, and some from the community. So, here goes.

Is Booker your real name?

Haha! Yes, I get asked that question a lot.  Booker Forte’ is my real name!

Hey, I had to ask!  Where did you go to school?

I graduated from Hampton University with three majors: Banking, Finance and Spanish.

Wow, you are well rounded.  Where did you grow up?

I grew up as a “military brat” so one can say I grew up in Inglewood, CA, Yokosuka, Japan, and Virginia Beach, VA. Collectively I lived in each place around the same amount of years.

That’s awesome.  So, we all want to know. What are you going to do with the $50K?

Well I plan on putting $45K n my E*Trade account and investing in (cksw) Clicksoftware as well as (aob) American Oriental Bioengineering. I’m a compulsive saver so this is right up my alley. I also plan on paying off some debt accumulated from being broke in college like my Target card, this other small credit cards, and paying my phone off for a year. Lastly, I will do some shopping, treating my friends and family. I plan on giving back to church from the earned interest I accrue from my financial investments.

Thanks for the investment tips. So, here is a totally random question. Who is that guy just standing their in your dance video?

LOL…LMAO…HAHAHAHAHAHA….That’s one of my closest friends from college and in life…a hell of a dancer, far better then me in some aspects. His name is Tyrel Kamal Clay.

What’s your inspiration/influence for dancing?

I give all praise to The Godfather of Soul James Brown and The King of Pop Michael Jackson. They are the hugest influences and inspirations ever on my dancing style and character. With in the latter years of my dancing career, I learned a lot from Tight-Eyez (one of the founders of Krump’n). His tenacity on the floor helped make my style look 1000% better after studying him.

Who was/is your idol either now of while you were growing up?

Of course, my Mom. She held the dance floor down back in her day. She danced on Soul Train during the disco days from 1975-80’s. Her name is Ana Forte’. She had me dancing right a long with her in the living room every night as a kid.

What exactly is your style of dancing called (ie, hip hop, krump’n, break dancing) or is it your own flavor?

My dance style is unique.  There are plenty of descriptions and names for it but when you see it, it’s one of a kind. It’s a combination of krump’n, b-boy’n (breakdancing), popping, and sliding; all techniques and styles that got me to where I am today.

What is your end goal? In other words, do you want to dance professionally, in Broadway?

My end goal? Wow, that’s a hard question.  I really would like to pay tribute to James Brown on a large scale like Broadway or a movie by performing or re-enacting a scene of his life. Other than that, I would like to be a regular on a sitcom (and not on Extra! TV but more of a main role).  I wouldn’t mind acting/dancing in a dance movie. Just something along the lines of letting my fans know on a large scale and medium I never stop doing what I loved.

Thanks again for your time Booker. Good luck to you in your future endeavors.
