Exclusive Never-Been-Read-Before Interview with Josh Engel
August 28th, 2007 | 5 Comments
In case you haven’t heard of Josh Engel, he was crowned the grand prize winner of the Capitol Records ‘The Road to Nashville‘ contest on August 22, 2007 in Nashville, Tennessee. Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend the event but I did have the pleasure to interview Josh and ask him some very specific questions about his love and passion for singing. I figured it was an opportune time to get this interview done as soon as possible before he gets so famous that his agent starts charging for interviews!!! : )
Interview starts here:
Hey Josh; thanks for your time today. So, how long have you actually used Bix?
I believe about 8 months.
Oh, wow. You are a veteran compared to many other Bix users. Why do you use Bix?
It’s the only one I’ve seen like it, plus other karaoke sites don’t have the exposure that Bix does due to the help of Yahoo!
How often do you use Bix?
I usually check it out everyday, at least for a couple of minutes if not hours.
Okay great. Have you established any close friendships with other Bix users? If so, who?
Well, I never really tried to make online friends with the Bix users. However, going to Nashville and meeting those folks in person was a different story. I think I made friends with all of them, it was an awesome time.
Being the winner of the Capitol Records Contest, I guess it is safe to assume that you are very passionate about music? Who or what was your inspiration as a child growing up? Who is your inspiration today?
Oh yeah! I love music and sing everyday. As a kid I grew up singing Ronnie Milsap and Elvis; today, I really listen to everything. If had to narrow it down, I would have to say that I really like Trace Adkins and Dierks, and sometimes Rascal Flatts. I also like current rock, like Three Days Grace and Shinedown. My family is my inspiration always.
If you can compare yourself to a celebrity singer today, who would it be? Why?
I would say Vince Gill as far as my voice, mine is much lower than his, but I feel like my vocal quality is similar to him.
Okay, Josh one more question. What are you going to do with the $50k?
I’m going to be as smart as I can with the money, I’ll put back a chunk for taxes, help my folks pay off some things, pay off some things of my own, put some in savings, and milk the rest. I know this is nothing short of a miracle, and wasting the money on things I don’t need would be dumb.
Is there anything else you want to say?
Yes, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate Bix and Yahoo! for this opportunity. Who knows what other doors could open in the near future for any of the Bix users? I couldn’t be more grateful that a website like this existed that night that I typed in “karaoke” on my Yahoo! search bar.
Interview ends here:
Well, I just wanted to show Josh some love and thank him for taking the time to chat with me and answer my questions. Only time will tell when we see him at the Country Music Awards along side the Brad Paisleys and Faith Hills of the world. At least I can point to him on TV and say, “hey, I know that guy!” Good luck to you Josh and all your future endeavors!
